What is better than seeing Jesus face to face?

And Jesus said:

“…I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you.  But if I go, I will send him to you. ” John 16: 7 (ESV)

Hold on, what did he say??

What could possibly be better than seeing Jesus in person, with our eyes, face to face? What could be better than being able to speak to him one on one, to be able to ask him anything? What is better than being able to take the sick and the demonized to him directly, so that he could lay his hands on them and heal them?  What could be better than having Jesus himself in physical form sitting beside you right now?

Jesus said that it is to our advantage that he is not here…how could that be possible? How could this “Helper” that Jesus speaks of be better than Jesus himself?  Jesus says, that the Holy Spirit, who is the Helper is better for us than having him with us face to face.  Just stop for a minute and really think about that…

How would you feel today if Jesus were with you in person?  If he was actually in physical form sitting next to you this very moment?  It is mind blowing to think that Jesus said to his disciples who were with him 24 hours a day, 7 days a week that it was better for them that he go away! How could that even be possible…they had him at their disposal at anytime…if they had a question they would ask him and he would answer…if they were sick he could heal them right then and there….if they needed food he could supernaturally produce it…they had him there to pray for them in person, to teach them anything and everything, and yet Jesus said it was better for them that he leave and send the “Helper”.

If we really believed what Jesus said, I think more of us would try to understand who this “Helper” is that is apparently available to us right now this very moment, the Helper is the Holy Spirit.  Yet most of us go about our days not giving much thought to the availability of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

We need to start living in the reality that the Holy Spirit is here right now and he is a force more valuable to us than if Jesus were here in the flesh standing by us this very moment.  This is a huge mystery and a glorious reality, and if we were to truly comprehend it this reality would change our lives completely.
